Out of the depths of her love for Bane Oana, Leia Kahale breaks her engagement with him. When a plane explodes above the ocean, Leia and her sister Eva pluck the pilot from the sea, only to find Bane in the third of Colleen Coble's Aloha Reef Series, Dangerous Depths. Bane persuades Leia to help a mutual friend, Tony Romero, find a sunken treasure ship, but on their first dive Tony mysteriously dies.

Tony's death makes Leia more determined to help Tony's pregnant widow find the treasure ship, but somehow a missing Hawaiian archaeological treasure, blamed on Leia's father, becomes entangled with the ship's treasure. Someone breaks into Leia's home, kills an elderly friend, who is taking her to the treasure and secretly courting her Down's syndrome sister, Eva. With a volcanic eruption brewing in the area of the treasure ship and Eva's kidnapping, time is running out for Leia and Bane to find the treasure.

As much as she fights against it, Leia's love for Bane grows. She fears, though, that his controlling nature will replicate her mother's, and that she will never be able to give him the children he wants. Her inability to win her mother's love and her birth defect of a cleft lip have stolen her trust in God.

As Bane fights to find the treasure and keep Leia's family safe, he finds he must relinquish some of his own control that has prevented him from showing those he loves the real man God has meant him to be.

Coble has written another fast-paced suspense story set in the beautiful and romantic Hawaiian Islands. The glorious setting almost becomes another character as the humans and Nani the dolphin explore the ocean depths for the Spanish galleon while nature threatens.

The author draws her characters well. The plot twists cover the identity of the murderers. Suspense readers, especially female readers, will enjoy the romance and excitement of Dangerous Depths. – Debbie W. Wilson, Christian Book Previews.com

Love how everything ties together. How her characters show up in each book. This one was a little less interesting , but good still.

This is the 3rd Colleen book I've read. It was better than the 2nd one in this series in that it had more good or godly characters in it, but unfortunately there were 3 murders in it, and other attempted murders. I just don't find murder edifying! So I threw this one in the trash as well. Needless to say, I will not bother buying the 4th in this series, as I don't want to chance wasting my money if it is like the 2nd and 3rd.

Once again a great addition to the Aloha Reef Series. I love the in-depth look the author gives to each of the characters in this series. By the time you've finished the series, you've become a friend of the Oana family. This series deals with human frailty and doubts that we all experience of Christians. I recommend the entire series.

Dangerous Depths is Colleen Coble's third installment in the Aloha Reef series. In it she focuses on the oldest Oana sibling, Bane. He has been a rock in the first two books, and in this one you see why. He doesn’t know how to not try to control events around him. But from the moment his plane dives into the ocean, the events in the book rocket out of his control. Leia Kahale turned her back on traditional medicine to embrace homeopathic, holistic medicine, a decision her mother won't accept. She broke off her engagement with Bane, but finds him back in her life -- a situation she is not comfortable with. Bane has returned to help a friend find a sunken ship rumored to be filled with treasure. When his partner dies, Bane and Leia work together to find answers. The interactions and conflicts between them rang true. Each had reasons for the ways they responded to the events. Colleen paints amazing pictures of Hawaii in this book. As I read it, I could almost feel the tradewinds on my face and the stifling heat in the jungle. Her attention to detail transforms the setting into an active part of the plot. While this is the third book in the series, you don’t need to have read the previous books to understand and fully enjoy this one.

A must read. I couldn't put the book down! I hope Colleen continues this series, as I love Hawaii and you feel like you are right there while reading the book. You won't be sorry you read the whole series!
